Fire and Security Firm (Fortune 500)
Service: Custom Application Development back to top

The Challenge

A leading fire and security firm that provides monitoring systems for the commercial and residential business markets was managing its documents manually, which was intensive, error prone, costly and exceedingly slow in document turn around. Also, to reduce costs and gain improved operational efficiencies, the company wanted to consolidate its operations.

The Solution

The company chose our Custom Application Development service to develop its document management system. Based on the client’s specifications and our IT Assessment, we developed solutions that resulted in significant improvements in its Document management processes.

The client’s document management system was part of a four year Order to Cash re-engineering program that the company had engaged The Casey Group to lead. For the document management system, The Casey Group worked closely with the client in devising the automated scanning and workflow processes for handling the multitude of contracts and order documents. The design called for the information to be maintained in a content management database where it is electronically stored and can be searched and retrieved as required. Additionally, the work entailed defining and designing the automated process.

The Impact

With the help of The Casey Group, the documents now move through a systematic workflow that:

  • Eliminates paper handling of the documents
  • Reduces errors
  • Provides routing based on business rules
  • Automates escalations for review and approval
  • Reduces overall processing time.
  • Allowed processing to be centralized
  • Integrates with other systems that rely on the documents and real time processing status

The system went live in early 2010 in a limited prototype rollout. It has now been expanded into all of the company’s branch offices.

Automotive Services (Fortune 2000)
Services: System Development and Legacy Modernizationback to top

The Challenge

Our client is a major distributor and retailer of automotive parts. It supplies retailers and repair shops across the U.S. Its core application is a real time networked system that fulfills online requests for parts by routing requests through the distribution channels in order to fulfill various sales order requests.

The company had begun an initiative to modernize and re-write the current application system to improve its overall performance and functionality. In order to do this, a decision was made to free up internal IT resources from maintaining and enhancing the existing system while the new development was in progress. Additionally, IT resources were to be freed up from normal day to day production bug fixing on the existing system.

The Solution

To enable it to focus on its new development efforts, the client selected The Casey Group to manage some of their IT systems.

The Casey Group was tasked with performing all systems analysis, application development and production break fix. Part of the challenge was working with older technologies that were in use as well as having to become familiar with the client’s internal code and business processes in a short period of time.

To help achieve this and to meet all requirements, The Casey Group’s development team did a series of reverse engineering on the application using various tools and techniques. A mock production application was then setup to simulate the production environment and associated connections. The result of this process was extremely positive. The developers were able to respond within the agreed upon SLA’s for production issues as well as respond to the various enhancement requests that were being made by the business.

The Impact

The Casey Group's support of the client’s legacy system ultimately allowed the company to successfully develop its new system and begin rollout according to their growth plans. This contract ran for over a two-year period and The Casey Group has been periodically contacted by the client for additional engagements.

Automotive Services (Fortune 2000)
Service: Custom Application Development back to top

The Challenge

Our client is a major distributor and retailer of automotive parts. It supplies retailers and maintenance shops across the U.S. They acquired a company that focused on supplying paint finishes to automotive shops. The acquired company was running the core inventory management system on an AS400 / DB2 platform with an unsupported client software technology of Delphi 5.0. Our client’s enterprise platforms were not compatible with the acquired company’s technologies and it was unable to support and integrate the application. To migrate the acquired company’s inventory management application into the client’s enterprise, the application needed to be reworked so that it could integrate with the other internal systems.

The Solution

The Casey Group’s Custom Application Development team was asked to develop the integration for the automotive inventory management system (AIM) and to add new functionality to the system. Based on the clients’ specifications and our IT Assessment, we researched the application and devised a structure that allowed the system to be brought in-house in a phased approach. A scaffolding approach using Web Services as the means to integrate was used. The database was first ported to an Oracle platform which was the client’s standard for the enterprise. Web services were then created, which allowed the retailers and the internal client sales force applications to communicate with other critical internal applications. This reduced risk of rewriting the front end, which would have significantly increased the time line and cost for integration.

The Impact

The Casey Group successfully integrated the acquired application into the client’s enterprise, which enabled it to proceed with the acquisition of the new business on time and within budget.

The business model was first conceived by an entrepreneur as a new business opportunity. To create the offering, a substantial IT investment was needed. The investment would be everything from the development of the application to the infrastructure to support it.

The Solution

The Casey Group was asked to provide Custom Application Development and Managed Services. The phases of the development went through the full process of product envisioning, prototyping, construction and rollout. While working closely with the product owners, the development team defined the processes and created the Custom Application with multiple iterations of delivery.

  • Modeling and Architecture of all components
  • GUI interfaces for doctor and patient access
  • Interface connectivity with Labs and Pharmacies
  • Development and Implementation of all code

Digital Media Services
Service: Custom Application Development back to top

The Challenge

The client offers a fully managed storage and delivery service for owners and distributors of digital content to movie theaters and other venues. Supported by its robust platform of fail-safe Internet data centers, the company is able to leverage the market-leading role of its Hollywood Software subsidiary with the innovative digital delivery capabilities of its Digital Media unit to provide the highest level of technology available to service the emerging digital cinema industry.

When the client was founded, the entertainment industry was only beginning to grasp the technologies and standards for digital cinema, the client wanted to gain early entry into this new delivery medium and to help shape the standards. However, it did not have the technology resources to create the software it needed.

The Solution

The client selected The Casey Group for its Custom Application Development and we architected and implemented the prototype for a digital media management system that processes digital film from the point of ingestion, into the data center and then on through the delivery of the film to the exhibitors via satellite. The project was performed in two phases. The first phase was the initial development for the proof of concept. In this phase the infrastructure was built out as well as the initial devices selected for receiving the delivered digital content. The proof of concept demonstrated the ability to receive the digital content in the proposed industry format and then manage the distribution to multiple exhibitors. The second phase expanded the work of the first phase, which entailed developing the lower level detail of managing the DCP (Digital Cinema Package) files. In this phase, The Casey Group also introduced an automated satellite transmission for distribution, built a management server for housing the DCP essence files and built a generic management process for creating schedules and playlists.

The project entailed:

  • Modeling and Architecture of all components
  • Converting the original proof of concept software from a Windows platform to a true cross platform system. (Windows, Unix, Linux)
  • Data Modeling
  • Integration of satellite software with the application
  • Tuning and benchmarking of satellite software
  • Interpreting constantly evolving industry specifications into code
  • GUI interfaces for management software and theatre film management
  • Implementation and testing on remote distribution NOC
  • Development of a propriety Notification System
  • Development of all code

The Impact

The Casey Group successfully met the client’s objectives and enabled the company to successfully enter the market. As a result, it quickly became a leader in the Digital Cinema distribution channel and today is the recognized leader in transforming movie theaters into digital and networked entertainment centers.
